Notes on the Production
Drawing on our experience writing Chelsea
Moore Castle for NTP's 50th anniversary,
the classically topical Lear Incorporated,
and Barb's years as a performer and writer
for Mysteriously Yours, we created another
new musical for NTP and it is wonderful to
get it in front of people again after the 3
year long covid hiatus.
The Millionaire begins with a funeral and
leads to a mystery. We have mined the
G&S canon for more delightful tunes from
Mr. Arthur Sullivan and added in some
famous tunes by Beethoven, Bach, Bulsara
and Orff as we tell this tale filled with
reversals and surprises.
Thanks again to AJ Jiang and the cast and
crew for all their hard work and trust in us
and the project. We hope you will enjoy it.

Plot Synopsis
ACT I
The play opens at a luxurious estate for a post funeral reception and reading of the last will and testament of Jacques Reynard.
A large crowd arrives to offer the bereaved their emotional support, and lasagna. A reporter from La Presse asks the widow, Magpie
Reynard, to say a few words about her late husband, and she does.
Everyone goes into the dining room for the reception.
We are introduced to Reynard's Stepson, Sebastian Caine and his Fiancee Zara Woodbye. A poor relation, Agnes Dearie. A Butler,
Alfred Moscovitz. And Reynard's business partner, Udele Volture.
Reynard's lawyers, Geier and Corbeau return with the guests for the reading of the will. It turns out that once the estate has been
disbursed, everyone present will be a millionaire! But there is a codicil to the will that states that if Reynard died under suspicious
circumstances, his entire estate will only go to his blood relations.
The reporter reveals that he is really Hercule Poirot and that Reynard was poisoned! The guests are left to wonder who the heir might
be. It turns out to be the poor, though kind hearted and attractive, Agnes Dearie.
How did Reynard die? Who is responsible? Will Sebastian go through with his marriage to Zara? How will Agnes adjust to her new
found wealth? How will Volture fund her business plans? How much will the lawyers make if Magpie contests the will? There are
answers to all these questions and a lot more great music in act 2!
